Aims & Objectives
We are a partnership of local businesses with the support of Medway Police and Medway Council helping to make a difference to the quality of life for everyone.
The Safer Medway Partnership has a radio link system set up to help prevent all crime and anti social behaviour in Rochester, Strood, Chatham, Gillingham and Rainham. It's a proven system that helps to reduce crime and the fear of it, not only to protect stock but staff and customer safety.
Safer Medway has again been accredited with the national Safer Business Award.
What is the purpose of the Safer Medway Partnership?
To promote crime prevention and education measures within Medway, in conjunction with retail and licensed businesses, Police, Medway Council and other community and voluntary agencies. This is to protect people and property, prevent criminal acts by encouraging greater public participation in the prevention of crime.
The Aims and Objectives of the Safer Medway Partnership:
- To reduce and deter criminality and anti-social behaviour
- To prevent and detect crime
- To help to decrease losses in retail crime
- To reduce the opportunity for individuals to commit crime
- To apprehend and prosecute offenders
- To provide instant communication to members, the police, CCTV and other organisations
- To enhance the "safe and secure" concept for customers and staff who visit and work in Medway
These aims and objectives will be met through the following Medway initiatives:
- Increasing membership in the whole of Medway, which is now the biggest partnership in the county.
- By using the media, we will advertise our intentions of removing the criminal element from all areas within Medway, which include the naming and shaming of offenders.
- Information forms. Our members will be able to collate and share information with these forms to record any incidents or sightings.
- Through our National Business Information Computer System, we will store information collated with our information forms. This will identify our most prolific offenders and build profiles. This can be shared with other partnerships across the country.
- Information sharing. Current information on crime and those who commit crime, including the circulation of photographs and modus operandi.
- An Exclusion Notice Scheme thereby banning our most persistent offenders.
- Through radio and staff awareness training, raise the awareness of our members and help deal with difficult situations when they arise.
- Supply town centre radios with a panic button so that members can liaise with town centre police and the CCTV operators to instanly deal with situations as they arise.
- Regular meetings, to update and share information.
